Westside Antiques Marks 6th Anniversary with Record Sales

Westside Antiques Mall started with 5,000 square feet on Odana road in the White House Shopping Center in November of 2002. Gradually, the store outgrew the location on the 6700 block of Odana near Westowne Mall, and moved into a much larger space in Market Square. During 2008, we remodeled the store to improve the flow and display of artwork. Since spring of 2008 we have added many new and exciting dealers from Chicago, Iowa, and many from the former Middleton Antiques Mall. Namely, Dr Bogdanowicz’s fine art, maps, prints and oriental pieces are now under one roof at Westside Antiques Mall. He has brought us many pieces that were never for sale before. We also added a new Estate Jewelry section!! (Many beautiful rings for Christmas!!)

We believe variety is part of our success and continue to provide the most eclectic inventory in the Madison. From postcards to Chagall, Fenton, Art Glass, to Samurai swords it can be found here. We now have a significant primitive collection with the addition of Spark’s Antiques to the center section of the store.

So far the formula has been working well. Even in these unsure economic times, Westside Antiques has realized the following sales across a wide range of categories:

  • Pair of pistols, $760*
  • English Pistol* & Belgian Pistol*, $440 & $380 respectively
  • Colt 45, $780*
  • Nazi Luftwaffe Sword & Another sword, $1,200 & $780
  • Netsukes…over $10,500
  • Lorenz Painting* …. $890
  • Estate Jewelry*….$2010
  • Costume Jewelry*…$1760 (collectively from three dealers)

Italian Buffet $2,900

  • Samurai Swords (5) …$5,165
  • Maps…$6392
  • Japanese Prints $2710

*(Have sold in the last 30 days)

Westside Antiques still offers consignment as part of their business. A recent sale in the last month was a complete set of ephemera from a chapter of the GAR. Within this collection was a gavel commemorating the Battle of Lookout Mountain. The gavel was made from wood that had a lead shot lodged within (see photos). The complete set of photos can be seen on our website at westsideantiquesmall.com. The set sold for $1675.

The appraisal business has provided a great deal of excitement for the store. A recent job in the works contains a Chinese late Qian Long Dynasty charger, c.1736 – 1795 (see photo). This and other stories can be found under the Westside Stories tab of our website. Speaking of Chinese porcelain, $ 2935.00 of porcelain has sold within the past 30 days. Many of the buyers are coming from Chicago and Milwaukee. Auctions are still part of the fun at Westside Antiques. We are planning an auction for December.  With the addition of our website, more people can use our electronic “Wish List” read “Westside Stories” and connect with all the services that we offer.
